Gender Network Formed in Buea

The Cameroon Gender and Development Network CAMGADNET, held its first general assembly meeting January 10 at the Women Information and Coordination Forum (WICOF) head office in Buea.

CAMGADNET is the brainchild of a network of non-governmental organisations, community based organisations in Anglophone Cameroon. They are already organized in the Women Information and Coordination Forum, WICOF, and the Forum for Women Information and Coordination, FOWIC in the South West and North West Provinces, respectively. Both networks have been involved in a series of trainings on capacity building, sponsored by the German Foundation for International Development, DSE (now INWENT).

The idea to form a network came up two years ago in Buea during an exchange visit to WICOF by FOWIC
During the visit by FOWIC to' Buea an ad-hoc committee made up of three members from either forum was created to work on a protocol document.

This committee worked for one year, exchanging views and making amendments at the level of each forum, until a final draft was produced.

The January 10 meeting saw the signing and exchanging of the final document by the chairladies of FOWIC and WICOF.

The main objective of CAMGADNFT is to promote development through a gender sensitive participatory approach.

The network also aims at promoting a strong civil society movement in Cameroon.
